Muziris has found mention in the purananuru Tamil Sangam purananuru and a number of classical European historical sources, the port was a key to the trade between southern India and the Phoenicians, the Persians, the Egyptians, the Greeks and the Roman Empire. In addition, its people puranwnuru developed and purananuru classical arts, classical music, historic buildings and religious sites include Hindu temples of Tamil architecture, hill purananuru, beach resorts, multi-religious pilgrimage sites, and eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
